Mark Harriss


Pastor Mark is in his first year of ministry at Zion.  Pastor Mark graduated from Concordia Seminary in 2016 and accepted Zion’s call.  Pastor Mark, his wife Rebecca, and their daughter Elsa live in the church Parsonage located on church grounds.  Pastor Mark’s office hours are M-T 9am-2:30pm.

Tim Krysl


Tim has been a member of Zion for 32 years.  He has served Zion in many of the possible lay-leader roles.  From teaching Sunday School, to serving as President of the congregation, Tim can almost always be seen working at Zion.  Tim is a teacher in the Festus R-6 School District where he teaches U.S. History and coaches XC and Track & Field.  His hobbies include shotgun reloading, hunting, reading, and gardening.  Tim, his wife Tracy, and their two children Loralei & Henry reside in Festus.

Norman Pooker

Community Action Coordinator

Norman is a lifetime member of Zion who has served in every possible lay-led capacity!  Currently Norman's work focuses on Zion's mission of being the serving arm of Jesus Christ in the Hillsboro and surrounding communities.  Through the Beautiful Feet Project and Gracy Day, we continue to serve those in need with the love of Jesus Christ while looking for other ways to be of service as well.  Contact Norman if you know  of a community need that Zion may spread the Love of Christ to.


Brad Koogler


Brad is married to his wonderful wife Dianne.  He has four terrific children - Michele, Brandon, Courtney, & Madison.  He has four grandchildren - Thomas, Brittany, Kaya, & Braden.  Brad has been a member of Zion for 15 years and has made many true friends.  He has been in construction for more than 38 years building high-end custom homes - “A job designed for me.”  Brad enjoys fishing, hunting, playing golf, and hanging out with family and friends.  “I have found that you get out of Zion what you put into it.  I am truly blessed.”

Larry Schmidt


Larry has been a member of Zion for 8 years.  Other than serving Zion as an Elder, he is also on the Finance Committee.  Larry worked in quality control at Anheuser Busch for 35 years before retiring to Hillsboro. Larry enjoys spending time at his place in the Ozarks where he enjoys water sports - especially fishing!  Larry has three children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  

Allan Christ


Jeremy Forsythe



Jeremy has been a member of Zion for 5 years.  His is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and St. Louis Blues.  Jeremy enjoys fellowship with his Zion family and friends, studying Lutheran doctrine, scenic excursions in his convertible, and vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL.  He works as a production chemist in the microbiology department of a chemical manufacturing company in St. Louis.  He and his wife Robin have been married 15 years and reside in Festus..

Steve Christ


Steve is a lifelong member of Zion. He and his wife Eva reside in Hillsboro on their farm with their three children Cody, Emile, and Owen.  Steve works in a crushed limestone quarry and runs his family farm.  Steve has served Zion in a wide array of leadership roles including President, Elder, Sausage Dinner organizer, and board of finance.  Steve's hobbies include hunting, fishing, and grilling!

Gerard Schellin


Gerard has been a member at Zion for 55 years.  He presently teaches Sunday School (for 40 years) and sings in the choir (for over 30 years).  He has served as Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and been on the Finance and Anniversary Celebration Committees.  Gerard works as a Nurseryman and part-time independent antique dealer.  He is married to his wife Martha (24 years) and resides in the House Springs area.

Shirley Leonard

Office Secretary

Shirley is a lifelong member of Zion who has served in multitude capacities: Sunday School teacher and superintendent, chair of the Ladies Aid, member and secretary of the Voters Assembly, & member of the choir.  She presently serves as Zion’s Church Office Secretary.  Additionally, she has worked as  a librarian at Jefferson College, for over 32 years.  Shirley and her husband, David, reside in rural DeSoto; proud grandparents to eight wonderful grandchildren.
