In August of 2015, Zion Lutheran Church put the community in need at the forefront of our mission efforts. Zion hoped to help the families of Hillsboro and the surrounding communities prepare for one of the most stressful times of the year: back-to-school time.
The costs of a family to get their children ready for school can be astronomical and ruinous on a family’s budget. Zion aimed to take that stress off of those families in need, and show them the Love of Jesus Christ by providing back-to-school services for them!
From back to school haircuts, to backpacks, shoes, and physical examinations, Zion put it’s heart into helping anyone who wished to bring their family a better back-to-school experience. Grace Day is now a staple event of Zion Lutheran Hillsboro, and each August, we will bring the same Love that Jesus Christ shows to us each day to the families of our community in need.
“I witnessed pure selflessness by parents on Grace Day because even though they were in need too, they put themselves last and asked for things for their children. I was inspired by those families. I cannot wait to have more of these experiences of love and kindness at Grace Day 2016!” – Madison Koogler, Senior Youth Member/Board of Missions and Family
A New Mission – The Jefferson County Lutheran Grace Day
In August of 2018, Zion’s transformed its ministry to become a collaborative partnership between five Jefferson County Lutheran congregations who wished to show their community the Love of Jesus Christ!
Now called the Jefferson County Lutheran Grace Day, Zion and her sister congregations are working annually to bring the Love of Jesus to the community in need during the back-to-school season.
